Film Censorship

Image
Film Censorship Lauren Fantone, 04/26/21 An organization or government will suppress, censor, or actively try to prohibit specific ideas or information from reaching the general population if they consider it to be a threat to society or unacceptable. This censorship can occur in many different forms including media, film, books, art, social media, news stories, etc. I think it is important to emphasize that censorship has been a concern for many years and in many different countries through many different governments and regimes, as it can be useful in achieving an intended goal or furthering an 'agenda'. The flip side to this statement is that the general public or everyday individuals are not receiving all of the information as they are only presented with ideas or media forms that are preventing them from seeing the entire truth.  We have all experienced some form of censorship throughout our lives as it is a common practice. For instance, books that were banned from scho...

The Role of Women in WWII Propaganda

The Role of Women in WWII Propaganda Lauren Fantone, 04/05/2021 The topic of propaganda is interesting as it can mean many different things and come in many different forms. Propaganda is the communication of misleading or biased information used to promote or publicize a particular point of view, agenda, or political plan. The United States government and corporations throughout the country utilized propaganda to influence the American masses to become more involved in the war effort, through both their monetary donations and moral support. The influence of propaganda was mass...

The Assassination of MLK: Why Do We Accept the 'Easy' Truth

Image
The Assassination of MLK: Why Do We Accept the 'Easy' Truth By: Lauren Fantone It was almost as if the world stopped. We sat huddled at our classroom desks with small speckles of sunlight peeking through the curtains and sprawling across the faces of observant students. As we sat silent, we listened to John Lennon's Imagine and tried to relate to the simple, yet captivating lyrics. The idea that people could live amongst one another in peace, with the ability to be 'one' seemed almost elementary and out of reach. In fact, this simple notion has been something that many people have tried to instill for years, but it always seems to be too far out of reach. I reference this particular moment from my senior year English class as we had been discussing the importance of Martin Luther King Jr. and his continuous fight for equality and peace, which has the unforeseen ability to be related back to the song above. His activism inspired the masses to let go of the gradualis...
